savetheearth, characters - often known as "Numbered" in-game - receive memories in the form of "Echoes." While Stefan received seventeen Echoes over the course of his time in StE, he continues to receive Echoes through his augment in Drift Fleet!

Changes from Canon:
→ Have a Little Faith: Stefan was raised half-Christian, half-Muslim, but formally reverted when he was eighteen years old. His faith is by far the biggest thing that separates him from canon!Stefan, as it influences not only romantic relationships & dietary habits, but also little details (murmuring prayers, saying bismillah when he enters a room, taking his shoes off at the door).
→ Trilingual and Proud: Stefan is now fluent in English, Italian, and Arabic. Arabic is his native tongue, and should the translators fail, Fleet people will realize he speaks it all the time. He also tellingly writes in Arabic, more so in his diaries than in public.
→ Older and Wiser: Stefan was physically 22 when he was turned into a vampire. [Icon-wise, this means nothing.]
→ Family Means Ohana: Stefan Alesci has two siblings - Damon Alesci (a heart surgeon) and Olette Alesci (a high school student). He also has a sister-in-law, Bonnie Bennett, and a young niece, Inara Alesci. (Alesci's parents are also alive and well, though only mentioned in the context of grandbabies.) He's incredibly close to them, and won't stand for people insulting them.
(Canonically, he has an older brother in Damon Salvatore; all other family members are out of the picture.)
→ For Science!: His Princeton degree is in EEB (Ecology & Evolutionary Biology) and he was a second year medical student insavetheearth. Stefan is a huge biology nerd, relating his medical knowledge to his current predicament (and sometimes, the conclusions he draws aren't so great). His biggest priority: to get his hands on the cure for vampirism so that he can re-create it in his lab.
→ Tealust: Until he remembers the Ripper, Stefan's bloodlust has been subdued; instead, he's chemically addicted to caffeine (specifically, black tea with milk). While he's not much for coffee, he almost always has a mug of tea in hand.
→ Friends are My Power: Heavily, heavily believes in the power of friendship and communication between friends. Doesn't like to hole himself up unless he's really depressed about something and/or writing about something in his diaries. That said, he's picky about who he befriends.
→ Jersey Pride: Stefan Alesci was raised in Locke City, New Jersey and is subsequently super proud of where he lived. Currently, he lives in Amman, Jordan (thanks alien invasion); in PSLs, he attends medical school in New Dale, Georgia.
→ Item Synthesis: Acquired in-game; Stefan can now re-create gels from the Tales Of series. If you ever need apple, orange, pineapple, lemon, or melange gels? This is your guy. Gels don't heal serious, life-threatening injuries, but they otherwise work according to Tales principles.
→ Underwater Breathing: Acquired in-game; Stefan can now magically breathe underwater, as a result of assisting the Dasioe in March 2017.

Echoes Earned in-between StE and Drift Fleet
Echo 17: Earned after a conversation with Lazarus, Stefan remembered that he is chronologically a hundred and sixty six years old, but will forever have the body of a 17 year old. [This Echo also came with several items - Stefan Salvatore's old diaries from 1864 to 2012. Stefan has retained all of them on the Fleet, but only carries the 2009 diary in physical form.]
Echo 18: Earned in the year between; Stefan remembers a Secret Santa held in Mystic Falls, and giving a terrible gift (a snowglobe) to Caroline Forbes. He also remembers that they're close friends, that she's a great party planner and that she still holds a grudge for his terrible gift.
Echoes Earned in Drift Fleet
Echoes 19-36: Earned upon arrival in the Fleet. Stefan regained general knowledge of his former world, including general pop culture references circa 2012 and the general status of supernatural creatures on Earth. He also regained knowledge about his education as Salvatore, including some of the college degrees he earned (one of which was at Harvard!) He also remembers more about Mystic Falls' dismal record at keeping supernatural threats at bay; he remembers more about the Founding Families and the Founders' Council (including members like Sheriff Forbes & Meredith Fell); and he remembers his home, Salvatore Manor. (He also remembers vampires' ability to heal people with their blood, along with general first-aid knowledge Salvatore had picked up over the years.)
Echos 36-50: Earned upon seeing Elena over the network. He has regained knowledge of their relationship (including how they first started dating); knowledge that their relationship ended; knowledge of Elena's family, including Jenna Sommers and Jeremy Gilbert; more detailed knowledge of their friends Caroline Forbes and Bonnie Bennett like their status as a vampire & witch/ghost/anchor; knowledge of Elena's time so far at college; knowledge about the Other Side collapsing; and knowledge that Damon & Bonnie had disappeared along with the Other Side. He also remembers how he reacted when Damon disappeared - ie, not well.
Echo 51-58: These echoes were mentioned during a conversation with Elena on the beach planet. He remembers his entire summer underwater, as well as the struggle he had regaining his memories the first time around. He also remembers his first kiss with Elena, the first time they slept together, and their relationship milestones. (He does not remember how they broke up.)
Echo 59: Earned sometime after talking to Shirley Fennes and Yosuke Hanamura; Stefan regained his rose tattoo, along with his reason for acquiring it (and how a vampire could even get one).
Echo 60-62: Earned after a conversation with Alex Russo. Stefan remembers Elena's reaction to learning he was a vampire - along with how she touched his face before accepting it (kind of). He also remembers the night where he cooked for her in the Sommers kitchen, and how he told her more about him.
Echo 63: Earned after a conversation with Alex Russo. Stefan remembers his "nights of passion" in far more detail than he cares to remember. (He remembers some nights with Katherine, but in his mind, it's all Elena.) He also gained "freaky sex knowledge" that he really wishes he didn't have, and over a century of experience in the romance department.
(He's gonna toss it out the window, though - Salvatore wasn't great at keeping girlfriends.)
Echoes 64-75: Obtained during Calibrations Event. Several memories returned to him in dream format, including:
- All memories from 1994 [memories of Gail, Zach, and Sarah Salvatore; memories pertaining to Damon; etc]
- memories from early season 1 pertaining to Elena (her quitting cheerleading as he starts football practice, etc.)
- Memories of 1912, 1944, and memories from 1864 pertaining to him becoming a vampire (his relationship with Damon over the past 150 years, essentially)
Echo 75: Residual effect from Calibrations. Stefan feels more comfortable with his significant other, to the point of giving them kisses & perhaps going further. (First hinted at in late October, didn't fully appear until mid-January)
Echo 76: Obtained sometime before a conversation with Remus Lupin. Stefan remembers the spell that pops' vampire's brain vessels - doesn't kill them, but slows them down long enough for the caster + nearby parties to run away.
Echoes 77 & 78: Obtained during his stay at FS Starlight, Stefan remembers how to play the guitar (including the chords for one Fleetwood Mac song) as well as how he spent the 1980's, as part of Bon Jovi's entourage.
Echo 79: Mentioned in a conversation with Yosuke Hanamura. Stefan remembers the first time he met Elena, by pulling her out of a submerged car & preventing her from drowning. He also remembers thinking just how much this girl looked like Katherine, and wondering why she did.
Echo 80: Obtained in a conversation with Kirito Kirigaya. He remembers someone - him? - ripping apart their victims before piecing them back together. He also remembers that Elena was hellbound to bring that person back from the blink.
Echo 81: Obtained after the fight against Hellion!Sorey. While offering his blood as a healing device, Stefan recalls every single canon instance that he's done so - and in turn, remembers that this is the one ability that he's proud of. It's the one reason he's okay with even being a vampire in the first place.
Echo 82: Obtained after a dance with Kate Bishop. Stefan regains his mastery of every dance technique he's learned since ~1864. He's also regained his sense of coordination, and with it, a little bit more of Salvatore's personality.
Echo 83: Mentioned in a conversation with Allen Walker. Stefan remembers that vampires called "Originals" exist, and that they can only be killed by stakes made of white oak. He also remembers that Stefan really wanted to kill one (though he can't remember how or why).
