I'm a vampire, Sorey. I wasn't born that way, but I turned into one around my 22nd birthday.

[Blinks at Stefan for a moment before pointing and gasping,] Tales of Frederic of the Red Rose!

[Now it's Sorey's turn to go red.] Ah- sorry! I got excited. I'd only ever heard about vampires in this poetry saga Rose introduced me to, about Frederic of the Red Rose society, and he's traveling the world looking for his lover and- [omfg sorey shush]

-and it's not important! Not important. The only things I know about vampires are from [smutty fiction drunk people listen to bards sing in bars] fiction, so...so you don't have to worry about anything! If that's why you were reluctant to tell me.

Okay, first off? We're going to get you better vampire novels [even if it means he's gonna write that erotic fic himself, because this is IMPORTANT], and second, I promise that I'm nothing like this Frederic of the Red Rose.

Last time we heard about her, she was going to save her twin brother from a group of bandits, but nothing since then! I mean, who's this 'Dawneilia' supposed to even be?

If the shuttle ride sounded dangerously close to veering off-track at one point, it might've been because of certain people taking almost the entire shuttle ride to discuss what is frankly, worse than Twilight. No, wait, that's an insult to Twilight and Ms. Meyer.

Also, he's gonna need some sunglasses to deal with that shine.]

What, no, you weren't inconsiderate at all. If this Frederic guy's your only frame of reference, it makes total sense that you'd tell me... everything he did...

[He's a fellow nerd, and honestly - it's not the first time Stefan's reached for literature to understand the supernatural creatures of his world. It is, however, the first time he's ever been compared to smut.]

We can always talk about me later. I'm not exactly in any rush. I mean, there's no way I can beat the time Frederic saved his long-lost mother from a plague. Or, you know, the time he somehow managed to travel back in time to save that - Gwen girl?

[Sorey's laugh is loud and bright; messing around like this is almost like having Mikleo along, and he swats the back of his hand playfully against Stefan's chest as they buckle up for entry into the atmosphere.] Of course, [he calls over the rumble of fire and pressure against the hull,] I'm usually more for just plain history. I've memorized everything I could get my hands on, but there's never been talk of vampires, or a people who might resemble them. So you're the first vampire I've ever met! Pretty neat for me!

[Ah, now that sounds more like the Sorey he knows. Stefan can't quite help making a face in return.]

If the rest of your Seraphim are anything like Mikleo? I'm not too surprised. Even your craziest vampire pales next to them.

[Stefan shrugs, unable to hide his amusement. Thanks for being considerate and not asking about the trainwreck that is (was?) his love life too.]

[The rumbling stops as they pass through the atmosphere and the shuttle autopilots them into the docking sequence, so Sorey unsnaps his harness and turns to face Stefan eagerly.] So, do vampires really live on just blood? How much do you need to drink? Is it only human blood, or can you substitute it with others? I'm assuming you can, since you seem to be doing fine.

So uh, that depends from world to world.

[Stefan sits up straighter, holding onto his harness as if it were a safety blanket. The question doesn't bother him in the sense that it offends him, but it does remind him of how not human he is.]

As far as I'm concerned, I need blood to survive, but I mostly drink animal blood. The amount kinda varies - the more I drink, the better, since it's not like I can hunt whenever I want to.
